DevOps Enterprise Summit London 2017 Recap: Day 1

June 5, 2017 by DevOps Enterprise Summit Leave a Comment

DOES17 LONDON

First, we wish to express our deepest sympathies for those affected by the terrible events on London Bridge and at Borough Market on Saturday night. Our hearts go out to them, the brave first responders, and all of London.

The first day of DevOps Enterprise Summit 2017 reminded us all just how much effort goes into DevOps transformations across the globe. A sold-out show made up of 700 attendees crowded into the main Ballroom at 9 a.m. to hear Gene Kim and Paul Muller kick-off the second annual DOES event in London. The excitement was contagious! In fact, before the first break, the conference hashtag on Twitter (#DOES17) was trending worldwide on Twitter!

One of the emerging themes that is being heard throughout the conference thus far is courage. Not just the word itself, but the idea that courage takes on many forms and was repeated throughout multiple sessions as companies discussed their “deep dives” into their DevOps journeys and venturing into the land of possibilities. It is clear that the value of DevOps has been expounded upon and is being realized, but where on the transformation journey will it lead these enterprises in the future? For those with burning questions that needed answering, many people turned up for the DevOps Workshops program right after lunch to participate in a format similar to Lean Coffee sessions. This was the first iteration of the workshops in London and it was led by Dominica DeGrandis and her team of facilitators. For more on these takeaways, stay tuned over the next few weeks!

Another interesting highlight from Monday was the “Ask the Speaker” session with Jason Cox, Andrea Hirzle-Yager and Jonathan Smart. It was a very interactive and engaging discussion with our attendees asking a lot of great questions to help them along their personal journeys. Over the course of the hour Q&A, Jason, Andrea and Jonathan shared tips and insights on everything from compliance and auditing to culture and people enablement. Be sure to join the Ask the Speaker session tomorrow, if you’d like to join what promises to be another lively and informative Q&A discussion with Jonathan Fletcher, Dominica DeGrandis, Suzette Johnson and Robyn Yeman.

Day one of #DOES17. I'm excited to speak at this event, about one of my passions: bringing people along, no-one left behind.
