Steve Grossman Sep 16, 2022 2:43 pm The concept of a software BOM goes back far longer. Software Configuration Management teams and tools were generating and maintaining BOMs in the early 90s. Back then it was more about being able to rebuild the software should it need to be patched than anything else. While OSS wasn't in the picture, we still needed to know what versions of vendor libraries were used and what version of compilers and tools were used so the program could be rebuilt in the future. It makes good sense that we're applying the concept now to contemporary challenges. Reply
Bill Bensing Sep 16, 2022 7:12 pm Steve, Thank you for pointing this out! Do you have any material references I can use as research regarding how BOMS were used in the 90's, or before? I'd like to compile a bigger piece focused on BOMs. Cheers, Bill Bensing Reply
