Revenge of QA

By Elisabeth Hendrickson, Jeffrey Fredrick, John Willis, Kamran Kazempour, Joseph Enochs

The Age of AI is the Age of Verification & Validation

This paper addresses the critical challenge organizations face as generative AI dramatically accelerates code production. While AI can generate massive amounts of code in minutes, the authors argue that coding has never been the bottleneck in software delivery—the constraint lies in verification and validation steps downstream. They demonstrate how organizations can avoid being overwhelmed by AI-generated code volume by adopting quality engineering principles, treating code as disposable inventory, and implementing fast feedback loops throughout the delivery cycle.

The authors propose a fundamental shift from traditional requirement-based development to a more experimental “prompts, not PRDs” approach, emphasizing small bets, rapid prototyping, and continuous validation. Drawing from lean manufacturing principles and DevOps best practices, the paper provides actionable guidance for transforming the software development life cycle into a streamlined ideate-validate-repeat cycle. Organizations that master these practices will be positioned to harness AI’s full potential, while those that don’t risk being buried under unshippable code inventory and mounting technical debt.
