Featured Resource: Metrics for DevOps Initiatives

July 6, 2017 by DevOps Enterprise Summit Leave a Comment

Leading up to DevOps Enterprise Summit 2017 in San Francisco, we’ll be releasing our most valuable DevOps resources to our community on a weekly basis.

Each of these resources come to you straight from the DevOps Enterprise Forum, where more than 50 technology leaders and thinkers gather for three days to create written guidance on the best-known methods for overcoming the top obstacles in the DevOps Enterprise community.

This paper summarizes a position on DevOps measurement that intends to be a catalyst for accelerating more mature guidance on measuring and steering software delivery.

This resource is split into three primary sections:

Chapter 1 — Principles

We discuss the guiding principles for a stronger measurement approach for DevOps software delivery and begin to outline which metrics matter most, discuss lead time vs. processing time, how to measure culture, and more.

Chapter 2 — Scenarios

In this section, we dive into three distinct scenarios, (Moving to a SaaS Culture, High Incident Volume, Complex Integration Test Problems) to highlight common problems so that we can better understand their solutions.

Chapter 3 — The Value of Measurement

Finally, we close out by discussing how you can get started using more measurement in your organization so that it can begin to increase trust, enable better decision making, and more.

The authors on each of these resources will be prominent figures in the industry, and on this particular one, we have 9 industry leaders working together.

They include:

  • Dominica DeGrandis, Director, Learning & Development, LeanKit
  • Dr. Nicole Forsgren, CEO and Chief Scientist, DORA
  • Sam Guckenheimer, Product Owner, Visual Studio Cloud Services, Microsoft
  • Mark Michaelis, APAC DevOps and Agile Lead, Accenture
  • Chivas Nambiar, Director DevOps Platform Engineering, Verizon
  • Eric Passmore, CTO MSN, Microsoft
  • Je€ff Weber, Software Economist
  • Walker Royce, Managing Director, Protiviti

If you join us at DOES17 San Francisco, you’ll have a chance to meet some of this resource’s authors. Here are two presentations from Dr. Nicole Forsgren and Sam Guckenheimer from DOES London, earlier this year.

If you’re eager to continue learning about these topics and more, come see how you can be a part of DevOps Enterprise Summit 2017 San Francisco. We spend three days talking with the leaders of large, complex organizations implementing DevOps principles and practices, with the goal to give leaders (like you) the tools and practices they need to develop and deploy software faster and to win in the marketplace.
